मी एका बहूद्देशीय कंपनीत इंजिनियर आहे. मी गेल्या सहा महिन्यांपासून ‘भाषाङ्कुरः’ या पुस्तकाच्या माध्यमातून संस्कृत भाषा शिकत आहे. पुस्तकाचे लेखक श्री. रोहन कुलकर्णी हे संस्कृत भाषेचे अत्यंत विद्वान व्यक्ती तर आहेतच, पण त्याहून महत्त्वाचे म्हणजे संस्कृतचे जाणकार तज्ज्ञ तयार व्हावेत, अशी त्यांची अत्यंत प्रामाणिक तळमळ आहे. त्या हेतूनेच त्यांनी हे अभ्यासपूर्ण लेखन करून अत्यन्त परिश्रमपूर्वक हे पुस्तक लिहिले आहे. बाजारात मिळणारी संस्कृत व्याकरण विषयी इतर पुस्तके केवळ शालेय अभ्यासक्रम पूर्ण करण्यापुरती उपयोगी आहेत. ती पुस्तके संस्कृत व्याकरणाचा अभ्यास करण्याच्या दृष्टीने खूप वरवरची आहेत. परंतु ज्यांना संस्कृत व्याकरण पारंपरिक, शास्त्रीय पद्धतीने सखोल शिकण्याची इच्छा आहे, भविष्यात लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी, अष्टाध्यायी सारखे विषय शिकण्याची इच्छा आहे आणि नियमित वेळ देऊन गांभीर्यपूर्वक शिकण्याची तयारी आहे, त्यांच्यासाठी ‘भाषाङ्कुरः’ हे खूपच उपयोगी पुस्तक आहे व जणू वरदानच आहे. या पुस्तकाविषयी –

बीज, मग ते कुठलेही असूद्या, नुसते मातीत टाकून, केवळ निसर्गावर अवलंबून, त्याचा फळाने बहरलेला वृक्ष होण्याची स्वप्ने पहावीत, का त्या बीजाला उत्तम खतपाणी देऊन, अंकुर फुटल्यावर योग्य काळापर्यंत संरक्षण देऊन, त्याची नियमित निगा राखून, त्याच्या फलनिर्मितीसाठी पूरक वातावरण द्यावे, जेणेकरून खात्रीने ती फळे दीर्घ काळापर्यंत चाखता यावीत. त्याचप्रमाणे, संस्कृत भाषा शिकण्याची इच्छा ते संस्कृत भाषा तज्ज्ञ हाही प्रवास दैवावर सोडून चालणार नाही आणि येथेच श्री. रोहन अच्युत कुलकर्णी यांच्या ‘भाषाङ्कुरः’ ग्रंथाचे आणि त्यांच्या आधुनिक शिक्षण पद्धतीचे प्रयोजन आहे.
या ग्रंथाची अनेक वैशिष्ट्ये इतर समीक्षकांनी उलगडली आहेतच. त्यांनी दिलेले, मला आवडलेले आणि शब्दरूपावलीच्या पाठांतराला अधिक सोपे करणारे तंत्र मी सांगतो. संस्कृतमध्ये विभक्तिरूपे बनण्याची प्रक्रिया अभ्यासताना मुख्यतः दोन गोष्टी महत्त्वाच्या ठरतात, प्रातिपदिकाचा अंतिम वर्ण आणि त्याचे लिंग. प्रातिपदिकाचा अंतिम वर्ण हा स्वर (अच्) किंवा व्यंजन (हल्) असू शकतो. सर्वसाधारणपणे ज्या नामांचे अंतिम वर्ण व लिंग समान आहे, अशी नामे एकाच प्रकारे चालतात. भाषाङ्कुरात ही शब्दरूपावली आहेच. पण त्याबरोबर या रूपांचा ‘प्रत्यय’ भाग नीट समजण्यासाठी, त्यातील नमुने लक्षात येण्यासाठी, पदांती स्वर प्रातिपदिक मानून त्याची रूपेही स्वतंत्रपणे मांडली आहेत. उदाहरणार्थ, ‘राम’ या अकारान्तपुंलिङ्ग शब्दाबरोबरच ‘अ’ या वर्णाची रूपे (अः। औ। आः) दिली आहेत. तसेच, ‘भानु’ या उकारान्तपुंलिङ्ग शब्दाबरोबरच ‘उ’ या वर्णाची रूपे (उः। ऊ। अवः) दिली आहेत. अशा रीतीने प्रकृति-प्रत्यय हा द्वैतरूपी पाणिनीय व्याकरणाचा गाभा समजण्यास ही क्लुप्ती अविश्वसनीयरीत्या आपल्याला चांगली मदत करते, आपली रूपावली पाठांतरची भीती घालवते.
अशा अनेक क्लुप्त्या वापरून संस्कृत व्याकरण शिकण्याची कथित क्लिष्ट प्रक्रिया सोपी केली आहे. आणि हो, या सर्व प्रयत्नांत भाषेची शुद्धता पाळण्याची काळजीही घेतली आहे.

हे पुस्तक नव्याने संस्कृत शिकणाऱ्यांसाठी अत्यंत सुबोध आणि सरल आहे. शालेय विद्यार्थ्यांना तर फारच उपयुक्त आहे. माझ्यासारख्या पंच्याहत्तरीतल्या ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांनाही नव्याने संस्कृत शिकण्यासाठी खूप सहाय्यकारी आहे. हे पुस्तक एकदम अभिनव आणि परिणामकारक पद्धतीने भाषा शिकवते. दूरस्थ पद्धतीनेसुद्धा पुस्तक उपयुक्त आहे. संस्कृतभाषेतील क्लिष्ट संकल्पना मूळातून स्पष्ट होण्यासाठी त्या पायरी-पायरीने एका धड्याऐवजी दोन तीन धड्यांत विभागल्या आहेत. धडे छोटे आणि संकल्पनांवर केंद्रित आहेत.
शिकणाऱ्याची सर्वांगीण तयारीही ती संकल्पना अनेक उदाहरणांनी स्पष्ट करून केलेली आहेच, पण त्याबरोबर सरावासाठी स्वाध्यायांत भरपूर प्रश्न आहेत.
सारांश असा, की हे पुस्तक केवळ पुस्तक न राहता एका उत्कृष्ट तज्ज्ञ शिक्षकाची भूमिका बजावते. हा संस्कृत भाषेचा अंकुर चांगला रुजून त्याचा मोठा वृक्ष व्हावा ही शुभेच्छा.

I am a retired IT professional. I learnt Sanskrit for 2 years in school a long time ago. I have been studying the Gita, Upanishads, and reciting prayers with the help of translations. But I wanted to study the Shastras in the original Sanskrit, and I was searching for a good book and training course.
One fortunate day, on the internet, I came across the book Bhāṣāṅkuraḥ and the related courses. Here is a book which teaches Sanskrit without watering down the grammar. Most importantly, although all Sanskrit students are aware of Panini-sutras, rarely, any course dive deep into them. This book teaches the core concepts of the Panini-sutras without overwhelming the new student. The book is beautifully designed. The fonts are large and very easy on the eyes. Concepts are explained with the help of pictures – an extremely effective method. It is surprising, the large number of concepts that have been explained so clearly in a single book on grammar.
Once I joined the course, I was even more impressed. Here is a teacher, Shri Rohan, who is rooted in the ancient Indian tradition of teaching. In the class, his only goal is to teach the concepts without hand-holding the students. He allows the students to explain what they have learnt and then corrects them, if necessary – a very modern, scientific approach. It does not matter to him if the class continues for hours, past the ending time – a refreshing change from modern-day classes. I have explored other methods of learning Sanskrit, and I can say without any hesitation that this book and the course, conducted by an eminent Acharya like Shri Rohan, will be difficult to find.

The terrific combination of Bhāṣāṅkuraḥ book and daily cintana (discussion) session is a treasure for any Sanskrit enthusiast, more so if one is a complete beginner and a working professional. This book is paced such that the Sanskrit grammar doesn’t scare a beginner and instead serves to boost one’s interest in the language. The cintana session, comprising students from all walks of life and age groups, serves as a means of active recall, reinforcing the concepts. The exercises make one think, recollect former topics learnt and form links between the concepts, further cementing the concepts.
