At this level, the concepts of Sanskrit grammar (संस्कृतव्याकरण ) are taught with explanations in Marathi or English. Learners should refer to our textbook भाषाङ्कुरः.
This level is open to those who can understand either Marathi or English (recommended age: 13 years and above). Learners may communicate in Marathi, English, Hindi or Sanskrit.
The goal of this level is enabling learners to master the basic concepts of व्याकरण, split words by knowing Sandhi rules and recognise forms to some extent.

Method of Learning
Learners must comprehend भाषाङ्कुरः in the prescribed steps:
- Step 1 — ग्रहणम् : In every week, 3-4 Lessons must be read and understood (maximum one in one day). In this way, 64 Lessons must be completed in 20-22 weeks (5-6 months).
- Step 2 — चिन्तनम् – The Lessons understood must be discussed with other learners.
- Step 3 — स्वाध्यायः – The exercises of the Lessons discussed must be solved individually and further should be verified with other learners.
- Step 4 — अनुवादः परीक्षणं च – During the weekly online session, the faculty of SSF will guide the learners regarding queries. They will ask questions thoroughly about the Lessons completed that week.
Learners are expected to diligently and regularly follow the Four Steps of Learning described above.
Starting from the third batch onwards, experienced learners from previous batches will be present during discussion sessions for guidance.
Testing your knowledge through a series of 33 exams
- Weekly Tests (refer Step 4 above) — Based on the lessons learnt in every week, there will be around 20 tests during the span of the course.
- Tests based on Illustrations — These exams will be based on group of lessons during the intervals marked by corresponding illustrations. There will be 11 tests of this type, two exams every month.
- Midway mark — After completing 29 lessons (approximately 12 weeks), one online test will be conducted for a total of 50 marks MCQs. This test is for self-assessment only, and it will not be considered for the final evaluation.
- Final Exam — Upon completing all 64 lessons (approximately 22 weeks), learners will be given 3 weeks of preparation time for the final exam. At the end of the 6th month, a final examination will be conducted for a total of 200 marks — 100 marks for MCQs and orals each.
Passing criterion: Learners must score 70 percent marks or above in both oral and written exams. Successful candidates will receive a certificate and a monetary prize.
भाषाङ्कुरविद्
Learners who score 90% marks or more in oral and written exams combined, will be eligible for the भाषाङ्कुरविद् award. Awardees will receive a copper plate engraved with the title भाषाङ्कुरविद्. Learners who have not completed 25 years of age as of 1st August 2026 will also receive a special monetary prize. Each learner will have a maximum of two attempts to qualify for this felicitation.
Learners who are above 60 years of age or are non-Indians will be given a concession of ten percent in the passing and award criteria
One batch will have a maximum of 30 learners
Note : A learner can directly qualify for Level 2 by passing the Level 1 exam when it is conducted.
Pre-requisites for the course
- Uninterrupted internet access
- A suitable device for attending online discussions (laptop, tablet or smartphone)
- Valid identity proof with age verification (Aadhaar, Passport or any official citizenship document).
How to Register for 3rd Batch
- The third batch will start in February 2026

About tuition fees
There will be no Tuition fees expected. However, donations are accepted, that covers the expenses of:
- Copy of the book भाषाङ्कुरः (includes delivery within India)
- Access to group discussion
- Weekly guidance by the faculty
- Exams
- Felicitation of meritorious students
The following score-based award policy outlines how a portion of the donation is awarded back in relation to examination scores:
- Score above 90% → 80% of donation
- Score above 80% → 65% of donation
- Score above 70% → 50% of donation
Note that learners are expected to donate a reasonable amount considering the above aspects.
